From plastic pollution to purposeful packaging

WILDPLASTIC® is building a system to recover plastic from nature and bring it back into the loop. Their work tackles plastic pollution through recovery in some of the world’s most affected regions, while also strengthening informal waste collector communities through fair partnerships.

Through this collaboration, Nilörn expands preferred material options within our packaging portfolio. The material is available for protective packaging solutions such as polybags (garment bags) and e-commerce mailers, either in 100% WILDPLASTIC® or in blends with PCR/PIR LDPE.

Why it matters

• Diverts “wild” plastic from nature and channels it into a circular system, helping prevent further pollution.

• Improves working conditions of informal waste collectors through fair partnerships.

• Reduces CO₂ emissions by up to ~70% compared to primary plastic equivalents (life-cycle assessed).

• Compatible with LDPE recycling processes and fully recyclable at end-of-life.

Creating a circular future requires collective action, and Nilörn is committed to contributing to positive change in the textile industry.

We are pleased to join the Accelerating Circularity Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing circular systems that turn used textiles into new raw materials. Based in New York, Accelerating Circularity is supporting closed-loop systems across the textile and fashion industry.

Nilörn participates in two key working groups within the initiative:

This group collaborates with major suppliers of trims, adhesives, thread, laminates, and labels to address the challenges of identifying, removing, and/or recycling these often overlooked materials in textile-to-textile systems. The focus is on creating scalable solutions for feedstock flows and quality standards.

Here, we engage in pilot projects across Europe. These pilots test textile-to-textile recycling, using post-consumer and post-industrial textiles as input for fiber, yarn, and fabric production, with the goal of making recycled textiles a viable standard material..

Through this collaboration, Nilörn supports efforts to mainstream recycled textiles within supply chains and pave the way for a more circular textile industry.

Nilörn is excited to be part of the Nordic Circular Design Programme – a pioneering initiative for forward-thinking Nordic companies and visionary R&D teams.

At Nilörn, we are happy to announce our participation in the Nordic Circular Design Programme, a groundbreaking initiative that brings together innovative Nordic companies and visionary R&D professionals.

This programme prepares Nordic companies to shift to circular business models and products, aligning with the upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). It supports us in advancing our sustainability goals and strengthening our position in the global shift toward circularity.

The programme kicks off with its first workshop in Copenhagen this week. This event offers a great opportunity to network and exchange ideas with other progressive Nordic companies. The workshop is divided into two key tracks:

Objective: Gain a strategic overview of market transitions toward a circular economy. This track will focus on identifying the key circular opportunities and risks businesses must address.

Objective: Analyse the current state of your products and services. This session aims to develop initial circular design strategies, laying the groundwork for actionable steps toward implementation.

Nilörn is strengthening its commitment to responsible production through expanded collaboration with bluesign®. Recently, Nilörn Bangladesh joined as a bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER, complementing existing partnerships in Portugal and Hong Kong. This initiative continues to raise the company’s production standards across its global network.

For items certified as bluesign® PRODUCT, a minimum of 90% of the textiles and 30% of the accessories must be bluesign® APPROVED. Both must be manufactured at bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER facilities, with the accessory requirement increasing to 40% starting in 2027.

As consumer awareness continues to rise, enhanced standards are expected to drive and motivate brands to improve their production ethics and operational integrity.

As one of the few bluesign® system partners in Bangladesh, Nilörn is well-positioned to offer tailored solutions for brands looking to enhance responsible practices across multiple regions.

The initial setup of the Ho Chi Minh City office has been successfully completed, with the focus now on expanding production facilities, building infrastructure, and assembling a skilled team. Key appointments include General Manager, Kim Tran, and Office Manager, Oanh Nguyen – both bringing extensive experience in the trims and textiles industry in Vietnam. Their expertise in sourcing and manufacturing textile products ensures a solid foundation for Nilörn’s operations in Vietnam.

Andrew Hoppe, Managing Director Nilörn East Asia, foresees a promising future in Vietnam, aiming to strengthen its market position over the next five years.
