Nilörn Expands Global Presence with New Vietnam Office

Published: July 11, 2024

Ranked among the largest global clothing exporters, Vietnam serves as a key hub for manufacturing and fashion brands seeking efficient global operations. Recognising this potential, Nilörn is increasing its global presence by opening a Vietnam office to tap into new growth opportunities.

Vietnam offers strategic benefits, such as proximity to key markets, an extensive network of trade agreements, and a supportive business environment – making it an attractive destination for manufacturers and fashion brands seeking efficient cross-border operations. As the fourth-largest clothing exporter globally, Vietnam commands over six percent of the market share, according to the World Trade Statistical Review 2023.

Earlier this year, Nilörn strengthened its global presence by opening a new office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This move allows Nilörn to leverage Vietnam’s strong trade position and growing textile industry.

“Vietnam presents an exciting opportunity for Nilörn. With its robust textile industry and strategic trade agreements, establishing our presence in Ho Chi Minh City enables us to serve our global clients better and drive innovation in our product offerings,” affirmed Krister Magnusson, CEO at Nilörn.

Local presence adds value to clients

By establishing operations in Vietnam, Nilörn is increasing its local presence in Asia with an additional production and distribution centre. This positions the company as a stronger supplier by streamlining supply chain efficiencies and providing localised support and service to clients worldwide.

Anne Chan, Sourcing Manager at Nilörn, highlighted the advantages, stating, “Understanding the local market, culture, and business practices is crucial. Being closer to clients’ production sites, suppliers, and logistics hubs in Vietnam enables shorter lead times, reduced transportation costs, and improved inventory management.”

Production with a commitment to Sustainability and CSR

Nilörn’s Vietnam office currently focuses on supplying labels, hangtags, packaging, and accessories, working closely with selected suppliers. Looking ahead, the plan is to expand the production capabilities to include care labels, stickers and RFID technologies by the end of 2024.

Initially, Nilörn Vietnam will hold certifications from The Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™), with ambitions to attain bluesign®, OEKO-TEX®, and GRS certifications in the near future.

“We have started the process for bluesign® certification. Additionally, we are working towards obtaining OEKO-TEX® and GRS certifications, intending to achieve these by Q1/Q2 2025,” explained Anne Chan.

Building the right team

The initial setup of the Ho Chi Minh City office has been successfully completed, with the focus now on expanding production facilities, building infrastructure, and assembling a skilled team. Key appointments include General Manager, Kim Tran, and Office Manager, Oanh Nguyen – both bringing extensive experience in the trims and textiles industry in Vietnam. Their expertise in sourcing and manufacturing textile products ensures a solid foundation for Nilörn’s operations in Vietnam.

Andrew Hoppe, Managing Director Nilörn East Asia, foresees a promising future in Vietnam, aiming to strengthen its market position over the next five years.

“We expect Vietnam to remain an important hub for sourcing and manufacturing for Nilörn, with sustained growth. Over the next five years, we aim to strengthen our position in Vietnam, expand our product capabilities and client base, and contribute to the growth of Nilörn”.
