Nilörn increases its focus on bluesign®

Published: OCTOBER 25, 2024

Nilörn is strengthening its commitment to responsible production through expanded collaboration with bluesign®. Recently, Nilörn Bangladesh joined as a bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER, complementing existing partnerships in Portugal and Hong Kong. This initiative continues to raise the company’s production standards across its global network.

Over the years, Nilörn has become a globally recognised provider of branding and labelling solutions within the fashion and textile industry, with a strong commitment to safe, compliant, and responsible production practices. As part of this, Nilörn delivers bluesign® APPROVED trims and labels, ensuring that these components meet the stringent criteria set by bluesign®.

In 2012, Nilörn Portugal became the first of Nilörn’s production facilities to join the bluesign® system. Since then, Nilörn East Asia followed in 2017. Including the Bangladesh facility as a bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER further highlights Nilörn’s dedication to these principles.

Looking ahead, Nilörn intends to expand the bluesign® system partnership to its operations in Vietnam and further develop the established setup in Turkey by 2025. This expansion reflects ongoing efforts to improve production standards across its global network.

Understanding the bluesign® standard

Bluesign® sets a global benchmark for responsible textile production. As a system partner, Nilörn commits to strict bluesign® requirements, which include eliminating harmful chemicals from production, ensuring workplace safety, and minimising environmental impacts across the supply chain. This partnership allows Nilörn to provide products that meet high safety and responsibility standards, providing assurance to clients and consumers alike.

Upcoming changes to the bluesign® PRODUCT requirements

For items certified as bluesign® PRODUCT, a minimum of 90% of the textiles and 30% of the accessories must be bluesign® APPROVED. Both must be manufactured at bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER facilities, with the accessory requirement increasing to 40% starting in 2027.

As consumer awareness continues to rise, enhanced standards are expected to drive and motivate brands to improve their production ethics and operational integrity.

Expanding Nilörn's global bluesign® network

As one of the few bluesign® system partners in Bangladesh, Nilörn is well-positioned to offer tailored solutions for brands looking to enhance responsible practices across multiple regions.

Anna-Karin Wårfors, Global Sustainability Manager at Nilörn, stated, “The partnership with bluesign® and the progress in expanding system partnerships reflect our commitment to responsible practices. With the rising demand from consumers and brands for sustainable solutions, this collaboration positions Nilörn to effectively meet those expectations.”
